We are very excited to introduce our newest feature, Ciorba Spotlight, where we take a moment to recognize our team members and their achievements. Because at Ciorba Group, Inc. we believe that our team is our greatest asset, and what sets us apart. So without further ado…
Rami was born in the Midwest and raised in the Middle East. After graduating from the American University of Beirut, he received his Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology and realized his goal of returning to Chicago, close to his birthplace. Joining our Structural Group in 2015, Rami performs bridge inspection, load rating analysis, and bridge design. His love of technology, passion for engineering, and boundless energy have made him the perfect fit for the Ciorba Team. His signature achievement here has been an implementation of a VBA software to semi-automate the load rating analysis process, which was recently used for the US 67 Bridge over the Rock River.
“Rami jumped right in to our diverse workload. He has brought “outside the box” thinking to various tasks such as bridge inspections, condition reports, and load ratings which has improved our deliverables and impressed our clients” – Brett Sauter, PE, SE, Structural Group Manager
In addition to his technical contributions, Rami is extremely active in professional organizations and giving back to the engineering community. He is a member of Structural Engineers Association of Illinois (SEAOI), serving as Communications Chair of the SEAOI Young Engineering Committee. He is also part of the SEAOI Technology, Public Relations, and Student Outreach Committees, and recently presented at the Annual Bridge Symposium. In addition to his work with SEAOI, Rami is also actively involved with the Arab American Association of Engineers and Architects Illinois Chapter (AAAEA-IL), where he serves as Membership Chair. Be it judging IIT’s Annual International Bridge Contest, or volunteering with the Chicago Summer Mentors Program, he is always ready to seize the opportunity to get involved and lend his talent and zeal to the community.
When he isn’t at work, Rami spends his spare time developing iOS and web site applications. His Bridge Info app, which is available on iTunes, enables structural engineers to quickly locate and access details about bridges by entering the Structure Number. Rami’s web design skills can also be found on the newly redesigned Ciorba Website.
“The people here never stopped listening to any “crazy, non-traditional” approach towards solving any immediate or future problems. This is the reason why I enjoy working here and I’m looking forward to more “out of this world” solutions!” – Rami Asfahani, Structures Engineer
We’d like to offer a big round of applause for all that Mr. Asfahani has achieved thus far. We can’t wait to see what he accomplishes next!
