The Bob Michel Bridge rehabilitation project is getting the community’s attention thanks to the multi-use path that will improve accessibility for pedestrians and bicyclists along the bridge. Ciorba Group is providing preliminary engineering and final design of the improvement for IDOT District 4.

A public meeting for the project was held last week at the East Peoria City Hall.  Brett Sauter, Vice President – Structures and Project Manager told Central Illinois News that “we feel that closing the bridge will make construction quicker and it’s going to be much safer not only for construction workers, [but] we’re proposing to keep the bridge open to pedestrian and bike traffic.”

The Bob Michel Bridge is a vital connection between Peoria and East Peoria. It is a 20-span structure consisting of 3 steel girder spans over the Illinois River and 17 concrete girder approach spans. Construction of this  $20 million deck rehabilitation and pedestrian/bike improvement project. will begin in 2023 and is expected to be completed in one year.
