IL 171 at I-55 Interchange Improvement
Ciorba Group provided preliminary engineering services for the rehabilitation of the IL 171 interchange at I-55 as well as a two-mile segment of IL 171. Scope included in-depth bridge inspection, Bridge Condition Reports preparation for twenty structures that have a total area of over 460 thousand square feet and two retaining walls. The scope of work also included geometric and hydraulic studies, traffic and capacity analysis, environmental studies, public involvement to complete a Project Development Report. The bridges have lengths up to 1,000 feet, with the longest span being 200 feet and included bridges on curved horizontal alignments. Bridge types include deep steel plate girders, rolled steel beam, two bridges over railroads, four multi-span crossings over the Des Plaines River and three over the Sanitary & Shipping Canal and Illinois and Michigan Canal.
