Park Avenue West over Skokie River

Ciorba Group provided  preliminary engineering services for the replacement of a single-span rolled steel beam bridge that was originally built in 1950 and widened in 1984. The existing bridge has a span length of 64 feet, a roadway width of 52 feet, and a Sufficiency Rating of 36.5. Ciorba’s preliminary engineering included an in-depth bridge inspection and a bridge condition report, which was used to present the condition of the existing bridge and identify the need for replacement. A bridge type study was prepared to evaluate and document several different bridge replacement options comparing different materials and substructure layouts.  The preferred type is a single span steel plate girder bridge with integral abutments built behind the existing abutments. A Type Size and Location plan will be prepared as part of preliminary engineering. The bridge is in an urban setting and its replacement is funded through the Federal STP-BR program.
